So for a while, I was having a hard time deciding on what I wanted to write about for this Throwback blog, and all I kept thinking about were chicks, video games, giant robots, and how much I hate MTV.
So I went with Megas XLR.
Created by Jody Schaeffer and George Krstic from Titmouse Studios, this series focused around two New Jersey dudes:
Coop, a local mechanic who stumbles upon a giant fucking robot in a junkyard and turns it into a muscle car/giant robot
Jamie, Coop's best friend. Flirtatious slakoth and voiced by Steve Blum.
Kiva, a pilot for the robot MEGAS, or Mechanized Earth Guard Attack System, that sent her robot back to the past. Before that, her robot was part of a massive war in the 31st century (3037 to be exact, 7 years prior to everyone wanting to be an MC, DJ, and/or producer, which must've been the cause of the war).
The same robot that was found by Coop, which then was named XLR, or Xtra Large Robot.

I remember seeing the promos as a kid/teen and shrugging the show off for a while. After caving in one night out of curiosity and watching an episode on Toonami, I instantly fell in love with the show. It was a cute and fun love letter to mecha and anime in general, with constant references to anime classics, plus I've always been a sucker for the anime/western mix animation style.
Of course, if it's not known already, due to low ratings, it had to be "written off", which is pretty much worse than a simple cancellation. It was so bad to air it in terms of ratings numbers that it was exiled from television. A horrid fate to such a fun cult show. I hope one day it can be revived some way, some how.
